Hou Yi holds an LL.M. from Fordham University School of Law (New York) and practicing at Tian Yuan Law Firm since 2015. His practice focuses on cross-border litigation and arbitration governed by PRC law. Hou has acted for PRC state-owned enterprises and multinational corporations in complex commercial disputes under CIETAC, BIAC, HKIAC, and SIAC rules, and appears regularly before PRC courts in proceedings for trial, enforcement and asset preservation. He has also provided legal services for the project financing of several large-scale overseas infrastructure projects.

Dispute Resolution
- 2024 – 2025 Counsel to a fund controlled by the Beijing Federation of Supply & Marketing Cooperatives (PRC SOE) in RMB 1.5 billion debt-restructuring litigation before the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate People’s Court; won a favorable first-instance judgment.
- 2022 – 2024 Acted for an offshore U.S.-dollar-denominated fund in an HKIAC share-redemption arbitration against a leading e-commerce group and its founders; obtained asset-freeze orders over PRC assets exceeding USD 30 million across 20+ respondents and secured full recovery through a staged installment settlement.
- 2023 – 2024 Represented an offshore USD-denominated fund in an ICC (Hong Kong) share-redemption arbitration against an online-education company; preserved more than USD 30 million in PRC assets belonging to 10+ respondents and achieved a one-time, full-value settlement.
- 2022 – 2024 Counsel to a Portuguese private-equity fund in a CIETAC equity-transfer arbitration; obtained a favorable award and, in follow-on actio Pauliana proceedings, recovered the full amount for the client.
- 2020 – 2022 Defended a PRC real-estate developer in HKIAC proceedings brought by a global hotel-management group involving claims exceeding USD 50 million; settled the matter for a de minimis payment.
- 2025 – present Representing an Alibaba-affiliated Cayman fund in HKIAC share-redemption arbitration (ongoing).
- 2024 Represented a subsidiary of China Energy Engineering Corp. (PRC SOE) in RMB 500 million litigation over non-performing assets; obtained a complete victory.
- 2020 Represented a Singapore energy company in a CIETAC arbitration arising from closure of a wastewater-treatment plant; negotiated a settlement exceeding RMB 100 million with expedited payment.
- 2017 – 2019 Acted for a China General Technology Group subsidiary (PRC SOE) in three fraud-related arbitrations (two CIETAC, one BJAC); secured awards totaling more than RMB 200 million.
- 2021 Defended the same subsidiary in an SIAC international-sale-of-goods arbitration brought by a Singapore chemical company; reached a rapid, favorable settlement.
- 2017 Defended an HKEX-listed company in debt-collection litigation filed by a joint-venture partner in the Beijing No. 4 Intermediate People’s Court; all claims—approx. RMB 90 million—were dismissed.
- 2017 Represented a China Cinda Asset Management (PRC SOE) subsidiary in litigation to recover proceeds of an asset-management plan before the Beijing No. 2 Intermediate Court; obtained judgment for more than RMB 300 million.
- 2019 – 2020 Counsel to a PRC SOE contractor in a CIETAC arbitration over debt recovery for a Qatar engineering project; won an award exceeding RMB 40 million.
- 2020 Advised a PRC SOE contractor in an engineering dispute with an Indian owner, addressing force-majeure issues under the FIDIC Red Book and obtaining court injunctions on independent guarantees.
- 2019 Represented a leading agricultural-machinery manufacturer in shareholder litigation concerning its European investment; coordinated with EU counsel on misconduct investigations of overseas management.
- 2022 Represented a New Zealand food manufacturer in a product-quality dispute with a U.S. supermarket chain in China, including parallel administrative-penalty defense; achieved a favorable settlement.
- 2020 Advised a China Three Gorges Group subsidiary on a shareholder dispute stemming from E&S-compliance issues in a South-Asian project.

- Counsel to POWERCHINA International (Sinohydro) on a series of Ghana road-building projects — China Business Law Journal Outstanding Deal 2020.
- Counsel to POWERCHINA International on the 730 MW Rumaila combined-cycle power plant, Iraq — China Business Law Journal Project Finance Deal of the Year 2018; ALB Deal of the Year 2018.

- External legal adviser on independent guarantees to more than twenty provincial branches of China Construction Bank.
- Ongoing cross-border advisory work for SOEs, including Ansteel Group, CNBM, CRCC International, POWERCHINA International, China Aerospace Construction Group, and Peking University.
